We all know that ovaries are part of the reproductive system of women. But do you know what is an ovarian cyst? Actually, ovarian cysts are small blisters or lumps filled with a kind of fluid, which starts forming inside the ovaries. Obstetricians and Gynecologist explain that these lumps of ovaries are called ovarian cysts. In most cases, until this lump becomes large, neither any symptoms of this lump (cyst) are seen nor does it cause any pain like pain. These ovarian cysts persist for a few days to a few months. Then it starts growing on its own. It is mainly of three types in women.

Follicle Cyst

During a woman’s menstrual cycle, an egg begins to form in the sac, which is called a follicle. Every month this sac bursts and the egg is released. But if it does not burst, then a cyst is formed inside the ovary.

Corpus Luteum Cysts

The follicle sac automatically disappears after the egg is released. But if the sac does not disappear on its own, then another fluid starts to be produced inside it and it is named as corpus luteum.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

PCOS is a common health problem in women. If this problem is not treated on time, then other problems like high blood pressure, heart problem or cholesterol, or stress or anxiety start happening. Not only this, but many cysts also start forming inside the ovary, which later causes infertility.

Symptoms Of Ovarian Cyst

  • Bloating or feeling of bloating in the abdomen
  • Pain during bowel movement
  • Feeling of pelvic pain during or after periods
  • Severe pain during sexual contact
  • Pain in the thighs or legs
  • Vomiting

Some serious symptoms after which you should go to the doctor immediately.

  • Having a lot of pelvic pain
  • Having a fever
  • Dizziness or Fainting
  • Fast Breathing

How to Diagnose Ovarian Cyst

CT scan: A body imaging device is used to produce cross-sectional pictures of the internal organs of your body.

MRI: This is a test in which a magnetic field is used. So that the deep picture of the internal organs of the body can be seen.

Ultrasound: This is also an imaging device. Through which pictures of ovaries can be seen.

Your doctor may also do some additional tests to diagnose your disease like pregnancy tests, hormone level tests, tests to look for ovarian cancer.

Treatment for Ovarian Cyst

Contraceptive medicines: If you are getting frequent ovarian cysts, then your doctor may ask you to take contraceptive medicines. So that ovulation can stop and at the same time, new cysts are also stopped from forming. Oral medicines can also greatly reduce the risk of ovarian cancer.

Laparoscopy: If your cyst is very small and it is showing signs of cancer, then your doctor can use this method to take out the cyst. In this procedure, your doctor will make a small hole near your navel and insert a tool to take out the cyst.

Laparotomy: If your cyst is large in size, then your doctor will remove the cyst from your body through surgery through a large hole.

You should take care of the symptoms of cysts in your body and as soon as you feel any symptoms, you should immediately get checked by the doctor.
